The Hotel

Le Sirenuse is a wonderful place from which to enjoy the simple pleasures of Positano and the spectacular Amalfi Coast. John Steinbeck, who visited in 1953, wrote ‘Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.’

History

The history of Positano is a story of survival against the odds, vital maritime energy, and a natural instinct for hospitality. But it is also a wandering line. The vivid murals of the Roman villa that recently came to light under the mother church of Santa Maria Assunta, the beautiful, mysterious Byzantine Madonna on the high altar of the church itself, the handsome 18th-century merchants’ houses of the Liparlati district, the northern and eastern European artists and writers who created a small but vibrant cultural community here in the early twentieth century – these dazzling pinnacles emerge from the past with no clear path between them, because so little was written down.

Today Le Sirenuse is directed by Antonio Sersale, Franco’s son, who has been at the helm of the iconic Amalfi Coast hotel since 1992. Antonio’s wife Carla looks after Emporio Sirenuse, the resortwear and lifestyle brand sold via the two Emporio Sirenuse boutiques in Positano, her emporiosirenuse.com website and in leading stores worldwide.

The couple’s two children, Aldo and Francesco, joined the family business in 2021, the hotel’s 70th anniversary year. Paolo Sersale’s two daughters are also closely involved with Le Sirenuse: Giulia is responsible for the plants and flowers that embellish the terraces and restaurants, while Marina and her husband Sebastian develop and manage the Eau D’Italie fragrance and skincare range, launched in 2004.

Rooms & Suites

If it’s daytime, it’s the light that strikes you first. Le Sirenuse’s rooms and suites embrace and reflect the luminous shimmer of the Mediterranean.

White walls, repainted every winter, white ceilings, many of them in traditional Amalfi Coast cross-vault style, crisp white bedspreads, soft white cotton curtains through which the sunlight gently filters – each of the 58 rooms is a soothing, spotless realm of light.

But there’s something else that’s more difficult to put into words. It’s to do with feeling at home as soon as you settle into an elegantly upholstered sofa, or a vintage cast iron chair on your private terrace with its ridiculously beautiful view. It’s to do with feeling at home – but also feeling that you’ve come to a place owned by people who care, who pay attention to details.

Courtyard and Pool Terrace View

Courtyard Rooms are intimate rooms that overlook a peaceful inner courtyard, offering a quiet and discreet retreat. Intimate Pool Terrace View rooms look out over the sunlit terrace, with partial views of Positano, the Mediterranean Sea and the Li Galli islands in the distance.

Sea View rooms

Sea view rooms open onto sweeping views from Positano to the Mediterranean Sea and the Li Galli islands, inviting guests to enjoy the sun, sea breeze and surrounding beauty.

Suites

Suites are located on the highest floors and super king size beds. The suites, a combination of Junior, one and two bedroom, offer a mix of terraces and private balconies with magnificent views over Positano, the Mediterranean Sea and the Li Galli islands.

Restaurants & Bars

Eating and drinking well in congenial company is so important in southern Italy it approaches the sacred. At Le Sirenuse, we have built four temples to this dolce vita belief system. All you need to do, as jasmine perfumes the lunchtime air or dusk throws shapes and shades over the rippling Mediterranean, is choose your mood. We’ll take care of the rest.

La Sponda Restaurant

Any chef will tell you that stunning backdrops like this are a challenge. But for La Sponda's executive chef Gennaro Russo, that view, that music and what's on the plate aren't that different. All three are the result of centuries of patient symbiosis between man and the natural world.

Aldo's Restaurant

At every table, champagne winks, wine glints, cocktails clink, conversation flows, music lulls and lifts, and light Mediterranean dishes mean there's no need to move on for dinner when you're having such a good time right where you are.

Don't Worry Bar

Dinner is done, but the Positano night is still thrillingly alive. A low murmur of voices and a seductive lilt of music call to you through an elegant maze of rooms. At last, you find the source. Here, at the heart of Le Sirenuse, is an intimate speakeasy hiding in plain sight, bringing together an eclectic crowd from all walks of life.

Wellness and water

Who says you can’t eat, drink, meet amici, fall in love and stay healthy all at the same time? Spa treatments that focus on you, fresh, delicious seasonal Mediterranean cuisine, the challenging mountain workouts of our twice-yearly fitness retreat, and a pool that is also a work of art – in Positano, wellness is a way of life, one that is all about feeling good in body and soul.

The Pool

Le Sirenuse‘s terrace pool was already something of an Amalfi Coast icon when Swiss artist Nicolas Party transformed it into a liquid canvas that changes with every breath of wind and shift in the light. An exuberant play of overlapping and interlocking organic forms, Party's vibrant mosaic has become a truly interactive piece of art: not only one you can dive into, but one you alter by doing so, as the ripples expand and create optical waves.

The Spa

The Spa at Le Sirenuse hides in plain sight at the very heart of the hotel. Its seclusion suits it well: this a place apart, a floating world of teak, glass and steel, a quiet space that soothes and moves to a gentler rhythm, reassuring, enveloping.

The Gym

After a night of la dolce vita, or a day of too many dolci, it's good to know that Le Sirenuse's gym is there for you, should you need it. Equipped with the latest TechnoGym cardiovascular workout machines alongside weights, resistance bands, yoga and Pilates mats and other equipment, the gym also features two of the very few Megaformers in Italy.

Art, artisanship and design

Franco Sersale, who for decades curated Le Sirenuse with a discerning eye, enriched the hotel with antiques, prints, and artworks sourced from around the world, carefully placing each piece to harmonize with the villa’s historic architecture and southern Italian traditions.

His commitment to beauty extended beyond collecting: he collaborated closely with artisans to design everything from floor tiles and terracotta pots to rattan chairs and marble finishes, ensuring even the smallest details embodied craftsmanship and character.

This aesthetic vision has since been carried forward by his son Antonio and daughter-in-law Carla through the Artists at Le Sirenuse programme, launched in 2015 with British curator Silka Rittson-Thomas. Contemporary works by artists such as Martin Creed, Stanley Whitney, Caragh Thuring, and Nicolas Party now find their place alongside centuries-old décor, creating a vibrant dialogue between past and present that continues to define the hotel’s unique identity.
